Global Partnerships

Over the past 20 years, University of Galway has developed a substantial global presence through student recruitment, mobility programmes, research collaboration and institutional partnerships.

Today, we are an internationally diverse and globally connected university. Our campus in Galway is home to almost 4,000 international students from 110 different countries and around one-in-five of our staff come from overseas, from over 45 different countries. We partner with the best institutions around the world and measure our success and impact by international standards. This is evidenced by the research collaborations we are engaged in with 6,000 institutions in 160 countries worldwide.

Europe

We have a strong partnership network in Europe through Erasmus+, with 200 Erasmus agreements in place and relationships with approximately 130 European universities, providing extensive opportunities for student and staff mobility. Additionally, University of Galway is a founding member of ENLIGHT, an alliance of ten research-intensive universities in ten European countries funded under the European University Initiative, part of the European Commission’s flagship strategy for higher education. Membership in the alliance is a key enabler for University of Galway’s internationalisation strategy, presenting mobility and innovative educational opportunities and research collaborations for students, staff and our regions across Europe.

Worldwide

Beyond Europe, our global reach continues to expand through partnerships with universities, research institutes and industry in key and emerging global markets, helping to increase the recruitment of international students for teaching and research, broadening international collaborations by staff, and increasing the mobility of students to and from partners worldwide.
